Penzance 0 Sticker 1
Report by James Wright
DEFENDER Harvey Hann came off the substitutes’ bench to fire the goal which gave Sticker a shock victory over high-flying Penzance at Penlee Park on Saturday.
Manager Dan Nancarrow made a crucial double change in the 79th minute by replacing Sam Eccleston and Owen Rosevear with Harley Sims and Hann.
And five minutes from time Hann threaded an angled left-foot shot just inside Penzance keeper Will Trenoweth’s far post.
Nancarrow said: “We were really pleased to come away with three points and a clean sheet. The boys dug deep yet again and they got what they deserved.
“We knew Penzance were missing some key players, which probably helped, but to go down to their place and win won 1-0 is superb result for us.”
A cagey first half saw just one attempt on target. Ollie Brokenshire and Eccleston both twice went close for Sticker while, for the Magpies, the highlight was a 20 yard drive by George Molcher that fizzed just past Harry Ashton’s top left-hand corner.
After the turnaround, the Sticker gloveman dived low to his right to pull off a superb save from a Silas Sullivan header.
The visitors continued to enjoy the better chances though. Jake Chafer fired over while Sol Wilson saw a shot blocked on the goal-line during a frenetic scramble.
In the closing minutes, Penzance handed a debut to teenage midfielder Harry Morton, as a substitute for Andreas Calleja-Stayne.
But then came Sticker’s double change led to the only goal of the game.
In stoppage time, James Butler and Sullivan both had good chances to level, but it was not to be the home side’s day.
Man of the Match: Connor Cooke (Sticker).
