Bond Timber Cornwall Cricket League Division Two East round-up – Saturday, July 4
ROSS McLachlan took the sensational figures of 6-3 as Wadebridge Seconds moved 21 clear of St Blazey following the champions’ defeat at Callington Seconds.
While Wadebridge were hammering their St Austell counterparts at Egloshayle Park, Blazey lost by eight wickets at a Cally side who are coming into form.
At Wadebridge, St Austell, missing two of their key batsmen in Jack Mallet and Steve Raven to the first team, were undone early on by Ollie Bate’s 3-11 from six overs, but it was McLachlan that weaved his magic as in just 38 balls he ran through the rest of the visitors’ order as they were dismissed for 61.
A remarkable Saints victory became a possibility when James Carter (2-21) and son Jack (2-21) reduced the Swans to 15-4, however McLachlan (16no) and Richard Atkinson (17no) ensured any huge shock.
St Blazey’s batsmen failed to fire at a Callington side who are creeping up on the top two.
Blazey were in trouble at 69-5 with key men Rory Dixon (28) and Henro Bouwer (12) both gone.
The champions did rally to 169 all out, helped by decent contributions from Dan Kendall (29) and Nithin Gowda (35), but it was nowhere near enough.
Opener James Brenton batted through for 77 not out with Liam Hunn (17), Blake Tancock (33) and Peter Tancock (20no) all providing support.
Lanhydrock’s bowlers got their batsmen out of jail at Tintagel in a 22-run success.
The visitors were in big trouble at 94-9, but the last wicket pairing of Nathanael James (16no) and skipper Jamie Eldridge added a further 40.
Ben Attfield (2-20) and Australian spinner Sam Remedios (3-14) then reduced Tintagel to 18-5, and although the visitors rallied to 111-7 through Gyles Reynolds (37) and Vedavyas Kankanala (20), Kankanala was run out before the final wickets fell in quick succession.
