Bond Timber Cornwall Cricket League County Division One round-up – Saturday, June 14

TOM Sharp once again led from the front as leaders Hayle ground out a one-wicket victory at Falmouth.

The former Cornwall skipper took 4-27 and then made 72 as they chased down 170 at the Hine Downing Oval.

Earlier, Adrian Noott made 80 having returned to the top of the order as he found useful support from Freddie Ayliffe (20) and Ben Coston (44).

Stephen Richards took 2-28 with the new ball.

Hayle were well-placed at 141-4 with Sharp set, but when he departed the hosts fought back brilliantly, including taking three wickets with the score at 168.

However, Max Jenkin (19no) held his nerve as Isaac Hurtel-Hymans (3-31) and Rhys McGowan (4-48) shared seven wickets.

Beacon are two points adrift after their bowlers got them out of trouble at Perranporth.

Beacon were cruising along at 112-3 despite losing Sam James (43) and Darren Proctor (28), but a brilliant spell from left-arm spinner Bryn Evans (5-18 off 7) alongside Kiwi Thomas Bradburn saw seven wickets fall for just 12 runs. Bradburn’s 3-5 took just three overs.

The Pilchards reached 80-4 with Bradburn set on 38, but they lost their last six wickets for just seven runs in 18 balls as Jordan Thomas (3-8) and Darren Proctor (2-18) did the damage.

Camborne overcame a battling St Erme by three wickets at Warrior Park.

The visitors found themselves in trouble at 94-6 despite Kyle Van Rooyen’s 33, with Jacob MacDonald (3-35) amongst the wickets.

St Erme fought back, and despite slipping to 141-9 with Shane Tangye out for 33, Sean Hooper (23no) and Matt Pearson (7no) ground out another 38.

Camborne reached 71-2 in reply, but spinners Spencer Wilcock (2-22) and Ryan Pascoe (3-27) had other ideas as Camborne fell to 109-7.

But wicket-keeper Liam Weeks (45no) and Jacob MacDonald (30no) made an unbroken stand of 71 to earn a precious success.

Roche grabbed their first win as they saw off mid-table Paul by 29 runs at Trezaise Road in a game reduced to 45 overs.

After choosing to field, Paul reduced Roche to 84-7.

Skipper Stewart May hung around for 38 and with the tail digging in, they reached 151-9.

Ben Brooks took 3-40, while Michael Fitchett (2-20) and Kieran Bowden (2-27) gave little away.

Paul fell to 20-3 with May (3-19) proving inspired, before Ben Brooks and Andrew Snell temporarily halted the hosts.

Once they were separated at 49-4, only Kieran Bowden with a battling 43 made any impression as they were dismissed for 122.

The Green brothers – Archie (2-21 off 8) and Oscar (2-18) took two wickets apiece, as did Liam Phillips (2-26 off 5).

Newquay saw off St Austell Seconds by 56 runs at the Sports Centre.

The hosts were staring down the barrel at 85-6 with only Chris Jordan (34) getting started as Tom Rosevear took 3-11 from his nine overs.

However, former captain Callan Jenkin made 23 not out as Newquay reached 128 all-out.

Young spinner Henry Johnson took 4-14, while James Carter (2-19) was miserly.

St Austell were going well at 36-1 with Archie Connolly (12) and James Carter (25) at the crease.

But once Jack Crichton bowled Carter, Rob Burton (2-28) reduced the Saints to 48-4.

Crichton (3-13) took another two before Australian left-arm spinner Toby Chillingworth (4-8) ran through the tail.
