Bond Timber Cornwall Cricket League County Division One round-up – Saturday, July 25

RYAN Edwards struck the third highest score in the competition’s 35-year history as Stithians eased to victory over fellow promoted side Luckett on Saturday.

The former Paul, Penzance and Ludgvan left-hander smashed 28 fours and 10 sixes in his 222 off just 151 balls as the village outfit racked up 381-4.

He shared an opening wicket stand of 173 with Simon Danby (69) before Glyn Furnival (33 off 18) and Matt Ellis (30 off 19) continued the assault. Cornwall Over 60s spinner Mark Southcott sent down 10 overs for just 27.

In reply, Luckett reached a respectable 291 all out, 140 of which came from opener Toby May. He was still there at the end having struck 12 fours and 10 sixes.

However, the hosts took wickets at regular intervals with Furnival (2-76), Mark Rowe (2-25), Ellis (2-58) all chipping in before Callum Martin (3-30) wrapped up the tail.

Falmouth produced a first win since May at title-chasing Paul.

A superb bowling performance led initially by Haydn Ayres (2-27) and later taken on by spinner Callum Stephens (4-27) turned the screw at Hutchens Parc.

Chasing 135, Falmouth slipped from 53-0 to 57-4 with Ben Brooks (4-28) doing all the damage, however Phillip Mann (29) and skipper James Tomlinson (32no) held their nerve to bring themselves back to within nine points of third bottom Newquay.

Newquay, missing a few key players, headed to leaders Hayle who were also missing several, but ran into a superb opening stand between wicketkeeper Aizaz Ahmad and Aussie Bailey Hosemans.

They put on 196 with Ahmad smashing 15 fours and six sixes in his 117 from 96 balls, while Hosemans played the anchor for his 108 from 148 balls.

Newquay fought back late on to dismiss the hosts for 272, Rob Burton claiming 5-74.

The visitors were going superbly at 117-1 with Aussie Tom Owen (46) and skipper Adam Cocking (63) set, but once they were separated they slowed to 226-9 as leg-spinner Max Jenkin took 5-32 from his 10 overs.

Hayle have a 17-point cushion over Paul, and a 34-point cushion over Truro who won by six wickets at mid-table Beacon.

The hosts – back to near full strength – made a competitive 207 all out.

Opener Sam James made a steady 63, while bits and pieces from the rest, including 37 not out at the end from all-rounder Ryan Clark, gave them a chance. Former county spinner Neil Ivamy took 4-49 while youngster Ollie Black wasn’t far behind with 3-29.

Truro timed the chase well. Charlie Kent (38) and Pakistani pro Raja Hamza Waheed (43) helped them reach 107-4 which allowed Dan Phillips (52no) and skipper Adam Price (48no) to guide the chase which they reached with 35 balls to spare. Mankee (2-28) and Clark (2-27) both bowled well.

Perranporth returned to winning ways with a comfortable success over fourth bottom Roche.

The Pilchards racked up 270 all out as Harry Watkins (42), Matt Whitten (36) and Cameron Bishop (34) set the platform to allow Josh Anderson to thrash 54 in good time. Spinners Liam Philips (2-66) and Oscar Green (4-41) shared six wickets.

Roche fell to 30-3 and 103-6 before eventually reaching 188 all out, but nobody made more than Jacob Rowe’s 26 from number eight. Tyler Murrell claimed 4-61.
