Cornish Pirates 17 Nottingham 6

The Cornish Pirates recorded an impressive Championship victory over Nottingham in increasingly poor conditions at The Mennaye.

In front of a crowd of 1,460 the Pirates had to dig deep in the last 15 minutes as they held on to a 17-6 lead in the torrential rain.

Nottingham had started the game strongly and were 6-0 ahead by the 25th minute thanks to a Jack Neville penalty (10 minutes) and a drop goal from Liam Slatem.

But a try from skipper Will Crane five minutes before the break got the Pirates right back in the contest and although Crane did not appear for the second half, his replacement, Max Norey, made an immediate impact.

He scored a 47th minute try to put the Pirates ahead for the first time at 10-6 and added another try 20 minutes later, with Robson converting to increase the lead to 17-6.

Nottingham piled on the pressure in the last 15 minutes but gutsy defending kept them out in the most difficult of conditions.
