Liskeard Athletic go in search of a trophy on Saturday to mark an excellent season after just missing out on silverware in the league and Cornwall Senior Cup.

The Blues face Okehampton Argyle in the Walter C Parson League Cup final at Launceston (2pm kick-off) eager to finish their campaign on a high.

Neither side has won the competition before and Liskeard’s last cup triumph was 20 years ago when they lifted the Senior Cup.

Liskeard finished third in the South West Peninsula League, three points behind runners-up Wendron United and six away from champions St Blazey.

And in the Senior Cup they were denied a place in the semi-finals when they were thrown out on a technicality after victory at eventual finalists Millbrook in the last eight.

Okehampton finished as runners-up in the premier east table, 11 points behind winners Brixham, who beat St Blazey 5-3 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in 90 minutes at the Champions Bowl match at Cullompton on bank holiday Monday.

Former Callington Town striker Luke Cloke missed a shootout spot kick for Blazey, having scored after only two minutes to give Phil Lafferty’s side a perfect start to the 90 minutes.
