For horse lovers, being in the saddle is about far more than riding. It's about freedom, confidence and a deep connection with the animals they cherish. For Brittney McClary, a member of Trisha Bradford's Slimming World group in Carbis Bay, returning to that feeling became the motivation behind a remarkable personal transformation. Like many new mothers, Brittney found that after having her baby, her own wellbeing had naturally taken a back seat. Between the demands of family life and caring for others, she had little time to focus on herself.
The turning point came when Brittney realised that her treasured showing jacket no longer fitted. While it may have seemed like just another item of clothing, the jacket represented much more. It symbolised years of enjoyment in the equestrian world, competing, riding and sharing special moments with her beloved horses. Determined to regain her confidence and reconnect with the passion she had always loved, Brittney joined Trisha Bradford's Slimming World group in Carbis Bay.

With the support of fellow members and the encouragement of her consultant, Brittney embraced a series of small, sustainable lifestyle changes. Week by week, those changes began to add up. As the weight came off, her confidence steadily returned. One of the most significant moments in Brittney’s journey came when she was able to fit back into her showing jacket, something she once feared might never happen again. But perhaps even more meaningful was being able to ride her smaller ponies once more, confident that she was comfortably within recommended rider weight guidelines and prioritising the welfare of her horses.
For Brittney, getting back into the saddle wasn't simply about appearance or clothing sizes. It was about reclaiming a part of her identity that had been temporarily overshadowed by the challenges and demands of early motherhood. Her story is a powerful reminder that successful weight loss is often about much more than the number on the scales. It can open doors to forgotten passions, renewed confidence and a return to the activities that bring genuine happiness.
Trisha Bradford, who runs the Slimming World group in Carbis Bay, says stories like Brittney's highlight the positive impact that supportive communities can have. "Brittney's determination has been incredible to watch," said Trisha. "She never lost sight of what she wanted to achieve, and every step she took brought her closer to getting back to doing what she loves. Seeing her return to riding and enjoying her ponies again has been wonderful."
Brittney's story will resonate with many people across Cornwall who may feel that their weight is preventing them from enjoying the hobbies and activities they love. Her journey proves that change is possible and that support from a like-minded community can make all the difference. Today, Brittney is enjoying life back in the saddle, embracing her love of horses and looking ahead with renewed confidence. Her success is not only an inspiration to fellow Slimming World members but also a powerful reminder that sometimes the journey to finding yourself again begins with a single step through the doors of a supportive community.
