Two local women who have transformed their own lives through Slimming World are preparing to help others do the same as they begin exciting new careers as Slimming World Consultants this September.
Both have recently completed their Consultant training at the Slimming World Academy at the organisation’s Head Office in Derby and are now looking forward to supporting members across Cornwall to achieve their own weight-loss goals.
Bringing personal experience, passion and understanding to their new roles, Nicola and Clare have experienced first-hand the life-changing impact of weight loss and the power of group support. After successfully completing their comprehensive training programme, both are now ready to run their own Slimming World groups, equipped with the knowledge, skills and enthusiasm to help local people achieve their weight-loss goals in a supportive and welcoming environment.

Nicola Orchard, who will be re-launching the Pool Saturday morning group, says becoming a Consultant follows a journey that has seen her lose 1½ stone and regain the confidence she felt she had lost. Before joining Slimming World, Nicola says her weight affected many aspects of her life, from the clothes she wore to her ability to enjoy the activities she loved.
"I felt as though I was disappearing," said Nicola. "My confidence was at rock bottom and my weight dominated my thoughts. I would look at a wardrobe full of colourful clothes but still end up wearing the same things because I didn't feel comfortable in myself."
A keen walker and outdoor enthusiast, Nicola reached a turning point when she realised she could no longer comfortably enjoy walking the South West Coast Path with her partner. "I knew something had to change. I felt as though my world was becoming smaller."
Having previously experienced success with Slimming World, Nicola returned to a local group and rediscovered the support and encouragement that had helped her before. Through meal planning, cooking from scratch and embracing Food Optimising, she lost 1½ stone and is now just 4½lbs from her target weight. "The biggest difference is that I can do all the things I want to do again," she said. "I can wear the clothes I love, enjoy being active and feel like myself again. If I can do it, anyone can."
Having almost reached her own target weight, Clare, who will be opening a brand-new group in Truro, understands first-hand the challenges of losing weight and the importance of support from people who genuinely understand the journey.
"I know how important it is to have support, encouragement and people around you who understand what you're going through,"says Clare. "I'm really excited to be opening this new group in Malpas and would love to welcome anyone who is ready to begin or continue their weight-loss journey." ‘I am looking forward to creating a warm and welcoming environment where members can share experiences, celebrate achievements and work towards their goals together.’

They credit the programme's combination of healthy eating, practical lifestyle changes and group support for helping them to achieve lasting success. Now, as they prepare to launch their groups during the first week of September, Nicola and Clare hope to inspire others to take that first step towards a healthier and more confident future.
New and returning members will receive a warm welcome, whether they are starting their journey, returning after a break or starting afresh. Nicola will be re-launching the Slimming World group at Heathcoat Social Club, Pool, on Saturday 5 September, with sessions at 8.30am and 10.00am.
