The world’s largest daffodil growers, who are based in Cornwall, have been named 2025 Supermarket Floral and Plant Supplier at the annual FPC Fresh Awards.
Organised by the Fresh Produce Consortium (FPC), a respected voice for the UK fresh produce sector, the awards unite individuals and businesses from across the industry to celebrate success and commend achievements.
Growing in Cornwall since 1885, Varfell Farms of Penzance process over 500 million hand-picked daffodils, 10,000 tonnes of bulbs and supplying two million stems of summer flowers each year.
They have worked hard to build a resilient, future ready business that delivers for its supermarket partners. They are committed to improving soil quality, plant health as well as improving local water and air quality.
At the forefront of driving innovation, they use the latest automation and technology such as optical graders, GPS, drones, Satellite field monitoring, localised weather stations, radar and lidar to drive efficiencies.
The award judges commented: “This impressive supplier is on a mission to set the benchmark for innovation, sustainability, and operational excellence in the floral industry. Forward thinking, quick to adapt, and open to communication, Varfell Farms is a shining example of a dependable partner for floral supermarket operators.”
The success of their market-first ‘£3 Big Bunch’ initiative is just one example of how they use insight and agility to drive value for both retailers and customers.
Their dedicated ‘vase-life’ varietal development facility, designed to optimise and closely monitor the shelf life of their products in real-time, ensures consistent quality and customer satisfaction.
It is this combination of innovation and forward-thinking is what earned Varfell Farms the title of Supermarket Floral and Plant supplier of the Year.
