WORK to upgrade gas pipes in Penzance has been postponed to ease pressure on residents and businesses.

Wales & West Utilities was due to start the work in St Clare Street on April 27.

The company now hopes to start the upgrade at the end of May after work by Cornwall Council to replace Ross Bridge has finished.

Natalie Raphael, who is managing this work for Wales & West Utilities, said: “With work ongoing to replace Ross Bridge, we have decided to postpone our planned works so that we don’t put any extra pressure on local residents and businesses in the town.

“We are hopeful our works will start at the end of next month and will keep the local community updated.

“While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of this community. Whether it’s heating your home, making the family dinner or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it.

“This work is essential to keep the gas flowing to local homes and businesses today, and to make sure the gas network is ready to transport green gases in the future.”
