WALES & West Utilities will start working upgrading the gas pipes in the St Clare Street area of Penzance on Monday (April 27), with the aim of finishing on May 20.
The work has been planned in conjunction with Cornwall Council, and it has been agreed that St Clare Street will be closed between the junctions of Treneere Road and York Street during the project, whilst Parc Wartha Avenue will also be closed between the junctions of St Clare Street and 7 Parc Wartha Avenue.
The project is part of Wales & West Utilities’ work to invest over £164,000 over the next 12 months to upgrade gas pipes across Penzance. The intensive programme of wider mains replacement works will see over 2,600m of gas pipes upgraded across the area.
Wales & West Utilities Natalie Raphael is managing this work. “We know that working in areas like this is not ideal,” she said, “but it is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future.
“While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of this community. Whether it’s heating your home, making the family dinner or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it.”
