A MAN has been disqualified from driving for 12 months after crashing his car into the Wig & Pen pub in Truro city centre in March 2023.
David Roper, 86, of Ferris Town pleaded guilty at Truro Crown Court to causing serious injury by careless or inconsiderate driving.
Devon and Cornwall Police were called to the Grade II listed pub at 3.45pm on March 30, 2023, after Mr Roper’s Peugeot 206 mounted the pavement and went through a wrought-iron fence, scattering furniture in the outdoor seating area before coming to a stop.
Three people were reported to have sustained injuries, including a member of staff who received treatment in hospital.
Mr Roper was fined £270 and costs to the Crown Prosecution Service of £1,500. He was disqualified from driving for 12 months, and until an extended test has been passed.
