A campaign group fighting to prevent cliff at Whipsiderry from being concreted are staging a family friendly fundraising event at Lusty Glaze Beach.
The Save Whipsiderry Cliffs group is inviting supporters and the local community to join them at the Save Whipsy Fest, which will be held on Sunday, September 24 between 2pm and 10pm.
The group have joined forces with Quick Panda Productions, who organise many of Cornwall’s events including The Great Estate festival & Rattler Fest, to host a day of top-quality music, comedy and family activities this month.
Headlining the event are A Blaze Of Feather who are renowned for their cinematic alt-folk sound.
Joining them on the bill are Cornwall’s own Wille & The Bandits, a highly charged, critically acclaimed four-piece playing a variety of genres spanning blues, rock and folk. They are considered one of Europe’s finest live bands and have taken their show around the world building a solid reputation as stage-takers and heartbreakers.
They will be joined by South West six-piece Land Of The Giants; their music fuses many styles, from rock to reggae, ska to blues, with a sub heavy helping of dub in the mix. Also on the bill is Newquay’s own Daisy Clarke, who, armed with her guitar, will be captivating the crowd with her unique vocals.
Alongside the live music, taking to the stage is local favourite, Kernow King, who’ll be entertaining the crowd with his unique style of Cornish comedy. We also welcome local collective Sprout Spoken, who will be bringing an alternative style of poetry and spoken word to the event.
Family fun and activities are also being organised, which will include survival skills from Under The Canopy, The Cornish Merpods, face-painting & much more, bringing a true family festival vibe to this unique event.
The event aims to raise funds to support the Save Whipsiderry Cliffs legal campaign; the group are fighting to prevent the destruction of the natural environment at Whipsiderry Cliffs and the planned infill of the sea-caves on the beach with concrete.
Andrew Robey from Save Whipsiderry Cliffs, said: “We know we have a committed & supportive community behind us, so we wanted to create an event which, as well as raising funds, will allow the community to come together and celebrate this beautiful stretch of the coastline.
“Nobody wants this environmental destruction & subsequent holiday villa development to take place – this event gives us a platform to communicate this in a positive and beneficial way. We were delighted to have been offered the space at Lusty Glaze to host this event – huge thanks to Tracy & the Lusty Team, and all the performers that have got behind this. I can’t wait for this exciting event, it should be a very special day for a very worthy cause!”
Ben Hall of Quick Panda Productions added: “I’ve been supporting the campaign from the start and as a local resident, who opposes this destruction, wanted to get involved, so we hatched the idea of a music event.
“The team at Lusty Glaze beach offered us the location, and as it’s so close to Whipsy it’s perfect.
“This is an event to celebrate Cornwall and its beautiful land and seascapes. If you love this county, don’t miss this unique opportunity to protect it, and at the same time have a good-old knees up with some fantastic local performers.”
Andrew added: “All of the artists involved support the Save Whipsiderry cause, so along with our hugely committed & supportive community, this promises to be an amazing finale to the summer season. Tickets are selling fast at savewhipsiderrycliffs.org. Any profits generated will be used to fund the legal & professional support required to stop the destruction at Whipsiderry.”
