St Blazey manager Phil Lafferty believes the club have added the final piece to their promotion-pushing squad with the signing of top striker Andy Watkins.
Watkins, who has joined from Western League title hopefuls Mousehole, is likely to make his debut against Camelford at Blaise Park this Saturday.
And Lafferty, now back in charge of the first team, told the Voice: “As soon as I was aware of the transfer of Jack Bray-Evans from Falmouth to Mousehole, I made an enquiry to (Mousehole manager) Jake Ash regarding Watto.
“For travel/work reasons, Andy was struggling to commit as often as he had hoped and so we made an approach for his services.
“Watto of course needs no introduction to SW football. His pedigree, professionalism and experience makes him probably one of the most decorated players currently playing at Step 6.
“And with 12 goals/assists in few appearances for Mousehole in Step 5, we believe we have added the final piece to our plan to win promotion and improve our hopes of winning the league.”
Blazey maintained their title push on Boxing Day with a 2-1 victory over St Austell in front of a crowd of 686 at Blaise Park, the league’s highest attendance of the season (match report and reaction, Page 33).
But there was no game for the Green & Blacks on Saturday as the scheduled fixture at St Dennis was washed out.
St Austell, meanwhile, got their game on and bounced back from their Boxing Day disappointment with a 3-0 win over Sticker. Match report, see Page 33.
