WATER bosses will be giving a progress report on their plans to reduce sewage pollution incidents along the Newquay coastline.

South West Water (SWW) will be attending Pentire Residents’ Association’s open meeting at the Pentire Hotel on Monday, April 14, at 6.30pm.

Among the topics on the agenda include an overview on SWW’s business plan priorities for 2025 to 2030; What this means for pollutions and storm overflows in Newquay for 2025 to 2030; What this means for water resilience in Newquay for 2025 to 2030; Review of bathing water quality for 2024, which includes any enhanced monitoring SWW may be planning for 2025; Operational activities since the July 2024 presentation; How and where the public can access more information on South West Water's plans and performance in reducing sewage discharges on beaches and in the River Gannel.

The meeting follows Alan Burrows, SWW’s director of external liaison and Andy Pettifer, the company’s waste water operations manager, giving a presentation at Pentire Residents’ Association meeting in July.

Peter Hargrave from Pentire Residents Association said: “The South West Water presentation will commence at 7.15pm, immediately following the open meeting.

“We intend this to be an interactive session and there will be plenty of opportunities for questions to South West Water.

“Over the past couple of years, the residents association has developed a close working relationship with South West Water.

“Our members have been pleased to see the interaction with SWW and to get a better understanding of its plan, particularly around reducing sewage discharges and improving bathing water quality.”

Pentire Residents Association is applying to the Environment Agency for the Gannel to be awarded designated bathing water status.

The group believes it is important that the popular swimming spot is regularly monitored as the information could be used to see if water quality is improving.
