PEOPLE in St Austell and the surrounding districts took part in a variety of activities to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day.

St Austell Bay Parish Council organised events at Charlestown including the lighting of a beacon, a service was held at the war memorial in Mevagissey and people in Tregrehan Mills held a VE Day party.

St Austell deputy mayor Cllr Colin Hamilton and Cllr Andrea Lanxon attended the Carclaze Bright Hour VE Day afternoon celebration which included a wartime quiz, a hat competition and entertainment from the Garker Street Band.

Cllr Lanxon also went along to Woodland House in the town for their VE Day celebration party.

Meanwhile, Grampound with Creed Primary School held a special day to mark the occasion.
