TRURO Old Cornwall Society (OCS) will hold a coffee morning and drop-in session at Zafiro’s in New Bridge Street on Wednesday, October 15, from 10.30am to 12.30pm.
The event will be opened by former Grand Bard, poet and Cornish speaker Pol Hodge, with authors Christine Parnell and Sheila Richardson in attendance to talk about, sell and sign their new book ‘Quirky Truro’.
Christine, a past OCS secretary, said: “Sheila and I are very glad to be able to show off our latest book. Christmas is coming, and books like ours make excellent gifts, especially for family members away from Truro and thinking of home!”
Historical writer Bob Richards of Devoran will also be present with copies of ‘Four Foot Gauge’, about Redruth & Chasewater Railway, and his latest work about steam ferries of the River Fal.
Truro OCS president Bert Biscoe said: “We’re very grateful to Mandy Hoare of Zafiro’s for the opportunity to hold a coffee morning here. It is a business with strong roots in Truro, with a good range of food and drink to offer. I hope people interested in Truro, and who may wish to join the society, will come along for an entertaining and sociable morning.”
There will also be a book sale, and a display of objects and documents of interest from the OCS collection – including the original Truro banner, believed to be about 100 years old. Truro OCS was formed in 1923, and the banner was found among the effects of the late past president Arthur Lyne. It has been conserved and framed, and will hang in Truro Library.
Truro OCS will also host a talk on Tuesday, October 14 at St George’s Church Hall from 7.30pm. ‘Seets and Spells’ is the fourth in a series by Roger Radcliffe of St Agnes, investigating the coastline of St Agnes Parish.
