KEEN twitchers had an enjoyable and successful birdwatching fieldtrip at Ruan Lanihorne on the Roseland Peninsula recently.

The event was organised by Rowena Castillo-Nicholls who is the founder and chair of Connect with Nature, RSPB Kernow Group Leader and publicity officer of Cornwall Birds.

Five nature and wildlife enthusiasts attended the event which saw Rob Nicholls as fieldtrip leader. After the trip, the group enjoyed tea, coffee, biscuits, bread, and chocolates that Rowena had brought.

The group spotted 16 species of birds, including two Blackbird, nine Black headed Gull, five Buzzard, six Carrion Crow, five Chaffinch, three Common Sandpiper, one Cormorant, six Curlew, two Dunnock, five Great Black-backed Gull, 20 Herring Gull, two House Sparrow and one Jay.

They also saw 23 Lapwing, three Little Egret, two Little Grebe, five Magpie, 12 Mallard, one Meadow Pipit, two Mute Swan, 13 Pheasant, two Raven, two Redshank, two Robin, five Shelduck, one Snipe, three Stonechat, ten Woodpigeon and one Wren.
