TRIBUTES have been paid to a former musical director and internationally renowned tenor soloist who has passed away.
Highly respected Richard Braebrook from Tywardreath died at the Royal Cornwall Hospital on Monday, January 12 aged 75.
He served as a MD for Newquay Male Voice Choir, Loveny Male Voice Choir, Marazion Apollo Male Voice Choir, the County of Cornwall Male Choir and he was the director of music at St Andrew’s Church in Tywardreath.
Mr Braebrook was also known for his extensive career as a tenor with the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company and the English National Opera, performing principal roles and touring internationally.
Tony Mills from Newquay Male Voice Choir said: “It is with the greatest sadness that we learnt of the passing of our former MD Richard Braebrook.
“Richard was such a talent and a massive presence who brought so much to Newquay MVC when he became our musical director.
“Widely known and hugely respected. Richard brought a sense of enjoyment as well as great musical ability to all of our rehearsals and concerts.
“We were sorry when poor health meant he couldn't continue in post.
“I'm sure there are many choirs and individuals in the wider community who will be shocked and saddened to hear of his passing. “Rest in Peace Richard it has been a pleasure and honour to have known him.”
