TRIBUTES have been paid to Stenalees Bowling Club stalwart Max Richards who has died aged 86.
Max was a member of the club for over seven decades and held numerous roles including men’s club secretary, fixture secretary and treasurer.
He played alongside his late brother Keith and late father Clarence, who were also lifelong members, as well as going on to represent Cornwall in various national finals.
In addition to his work at the club, he was also a secretary at Carnmoggas Indoor Bowling Club. Max was made a Life Member of the English Bowls Umpires Association in 2017 in recognition of the work he had done for the sport.

Away from the sport, Max played a key part in village life and served as treasurer at Stenalees Chapel for many years.
Tributes have been paid on social media by those who knew him, describing Max as ‘Mr Stenalees’ and ‘a true stalwart of bowls in Cornwall’.
A spokesperson for Stenalees Bowling Club said: “It is with great sadness that we announce the very sad and sudden passing away of ‘Mr Stenalees’ Max Richards.
“A Stenalees boy, alongside playing a huge role in village life with the Chapel and other activities, Max was a member of Stenalees bowling club for over 70 years and alongside playing for club and county, held every position in the club (including making up new roles so he could take more on) apart from that of green keeper.
“Max will be sadly missed by all that knew him, a real character with a heart of gold. He will be remembered for years to come and sadly missed by us all. Further details regarding funeral arrangements etc will be shared in due course and our thoughts are with Max’s family and friends.”
