HUNDREDS of tributes have been paid to a much-loved Saltash pub landlord who has died after a short illness.
Brian Pritchard, who was landlord of the Union Inn for more than 30 years, passed away on Saturday (August 15) with his family at his side.
Described by those who knew him as the “Heart of the Union”, Brian was a hugely popular figure in Saltash and had welcomed generations of customers through the doors of the pub during his three decades behind the bar.
News of his death prompted an immediate outpouring of grief, with hundreds of people paying tribute to the landlord and sharing memories of a man who had become such a familiar face in the town.
His family announced his death in a statement, saying: “It is with great sadness that I have to announce that my father Brian Pritchard passed away today after a short illness with his family at his side.”
The Union Inn has been closed until further notice to allow Brian’s family and staff time to grieve and make arrangements.
The family thanked everyone for their support and understanding during what they described as an extremely difficult time. They also asked for privacy as they come to terms with their loss.
Customers, friends and members of the wider community have been remembering Brian and the impact he had on their lives, with many recalling his warmth, humour and welcoming nature.
