A COUNTRY house hotel by the sea on the Roseland Peninsula has won a coveted Good Hotel Guide 2026 César Award for Best Seaside Hotel.
The Nare received the accolade at a prestigious ceremony on November 18, reinforcing its reputation as one of the leading 5* hotels in the South West.
The Césars are awarded to hotels, inns and B&Bs which are outstanding in their category. Hotels are reviewed by an anonymous Good Hotel Guide inspector following reports from readers whose judgments are trusted, making it the only truly independent hotel guide in the UK.
The Nare overlooks the beautiful National Trust beach of Carne, with its golden sands stretching towards Nare Head. Earlier this year, the family-owned hotel launched The Quarterdeck seafood restaurant, offering guests and non-residents the finest, locally-sourced seafood with the very best sea views.
The Good Hotel César Award comes hot on the heels of winning the Condé Nast Johansens Award for Excellence 2026 for Best Waterside Hotel.
Hotel proprietor Toby Ashworth said: “We are very proud to have won not one, but two reputable accolades. It is true recognition for our dedicated team who work incredibly hard to deliver exemplary service and comfort to our guests.
“These awards reaffirm and recognise the personal and unobtrusive traditional service for which we are renowned, providing for families of all generations. We have been delivering this for many years and will continue to do so.”
The Nare was built in 1929 as a 36-bedroom hotel by a group of local businessmen. During the Second World War, it housed Sussex schoolboys for a summer term before being requisitioned by the Army in the name of coastal defence.
