A TEENAGER from Newquay is being awarded a prestigious accolade for his outstanding contribution to society.
Malachi Tasker is receiving the coveted British Citizen Award (BCA) Medal of Honour for Services to Education (BCAe) following his work raising awareness for Tourette’s and autism acceptance in the UK.
The 19-year-old, who has Tourette's Syndrome, autism, ADHD and sensory processing disorder, was frequently told he would not attend mainstream education or lead an independent, fulfilling life in his early years.
He defied those expectations and at 13 founded his own art studio, using creativity as a means of self-expression. His work gained international recognition. Alongside his artistic success, Malachi became a National Indoor Climbing Award Schemes-qualified climber, further demonstrating his resilience.
He now delivers neurodivergence awareness training, informed by his lived experience. He is the first young person invited to deliver this training to all UK police forces through the College of Policing, where he has instructed about 5,000 UK officers.
A spokesperson for the British Citizen Awards said: “Malachi’s creativity, determination and commitment to inclusion have highlighted his exceptional achievements.
“His journey from educational exclusion to professional accomplishment highlights the importance of belief, understanding and tailored support.
“Guided by a strong belief that disabled people should never be written off, he has consistently challenged assumptions and created opportunities not only for himself, but for others”
Malachi will be among 26 people receiving the British Citizen Award (BCA) at the Palace of Westminster on Thursday, January 22.
The presentation will be hosted by television and radio presenter Konnie Huq, and will be attended by BCA Patrons Dame Mary Perkins, co-founder of Specsavers, and The Lord Mott OBE.
Representatives from BCA supporters, Specsavers, Places for People, Novus Property Solutions and Aldermore Bank will also be in attendance.
Stephanie Wood, from BCA Partner One Stop, said: “This year’s medalists exemplify the incredible support within our communities, especially during challenging times. We’re honoured to partner with the BCA and play a part in recognising these exceptional individuals.”
Medalists will enjoy an open-top bus tour following the awards ceremony to take in some of Westminster’s iconic sights in celebration of their achievements.
