TEAMS put in an ‘oar-some’ effort taking part in a charity gig race held in Newquay for charity.
Eleven crews competed in the annual sponsored gig row in Newquay bay in aid of Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW), which was organised by Newquay Rowing Club.
Kernow Welding claimed first place in a closely fought race, followed by Elevate Offshore in second and Start & Row (Start & Co) in third.
The winning crews were presented with their certificates by Newquay’s mayor, Councillor Drew Creek.
A spokesperson for Children’s Hospice South West said: “The annual Newquay Gig Row brought together a vibrant mix of local participants and supporters.
“The 11 crews who took part in the event represented a wide range of businesses, community groups and groups of friends who all came together to take part and enjoy the challenge.
“The day showcased both friendly rivalry and strong community spirit, with participants embracing the opportunity to support a meaningful cause while having a go at gig rowing.
“While the final fundraising total is still being confirmed, as additional donations continue to come in, the event has already raised more than £700 for Children’s Hospice South West.”
Alice Merrett, area fundraiser for Children’s Hospice South West, added: “Newquay Rowing Club did a fantastic job of organising and running such a brilliant day, and we are always so grateful for their ongoing support.
“Events like this not only raise vital funds for the children and families we care for, but they also bring the community together in such a positive and uplifting way. “It’s wonderful to see so many people taking part, cheering each other on and getting involved for such an important cause.
“Every pound raised really does make a difference, and we can’t thank everyone enough for their enthusiasm and generosity.”
