Many beaches were red flagged in the area by Newquay RNLI lifeguards for safety reasons but a number of waveriders managed to surf more sheltered spots along the coastline.

Waves estimated to be as high as 16 feet broke at Fistral but only a handful of surfers paddled out. More surfers opted to surf Newquay bay. Towan beach was busy with surfers keen to tackle the hurricane Erin swell.
