SUMMER events for children, young people and adults have been lined up at St Austell Library.
On Monday, July 28, Tom Mitchell, the author of The Penguin Lessons, which was recently turned into a film featuring Steve Coogan, will be at the library from 6.30pm. The event costs £3 which will include cheese and wine.
The following week, Cornwall Performing Arts workshops will run from noon to 4pm on Monday, August 4, Tuesday, August 5, and Wednesday, August 6.
Then, on Monday, August 11, at 6.30pm, local historian Lyndon Allen will be giving a talk on the Second World War as part of the VJ (Victory over Japan) Day 80th anniversary events in the town. The charge will be £5 and the proceeds of a raffle will go to the St Austell branch of the Royal British Legion. The town’s main VJ Day celebrations and commemorations will take place on Thursday, August 14.
The following day, Friday, August 15, experts from the Eden Project will be visiting the library. Phil Young will be leading a workshop on insect refuges from 1pm to 2pm. This will be followed by Julie Kendall talking about carnivorous bog creatures. Charges of £1 per child apply.
On the afternoon of Friday, August 22, rock pool workshops will be held at the library. The cost is £2.
Then on Thursday, August 28, the Royal Navy will be staging a workshop for 11- to-15-year-olds on STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths).

Meanwhile, SALSA (St Austell Library Support Association) is holding its annual general meeting at the library on Tuesday, August 12, at 10am.
