A PARTY has been held to celebrate the 65th anniversary of the St Austell Library building.
The library construction project was an award winner in 1960 and the building now has listed status.
Peter Cornwell, the chairman of SALSA (St Austell Library Support Association) opened the party and thanked library staff, SALSA members and town councillors for their hard work in sustaining the library as a welcoming community hub.
Mayor Colin Hamilton cut a cake and entertainment was provided by the Velvets.
A council spokesperson said: “Newspaper cuttings and articles on the library’s 65 years created lots of story exchanges between staff old and new, all with one thing in common – a genuine fondness for a building that has stood the test of time.”
