A cluster of properties in Truro’s Bodmin Road are without power after a row of telegraph poles was damaged as Storm Goretti raged through Truro on Thursday night.
Electric wires from poles opposite Tremorvah playing field and Archbishop Benson School were strewn and knotted after a tree branch was brought down in extreme winds at the height of Storm Goretti.
One of the homes affected was that of Ron Kidd, who said: “I have struggled to get hold of the National Grid. I know they are busy but this was a major incident with power cables lying on the floor for people to step on.”
Ron also lost power in November 2024 during Storm Bert, when a tree in Tremorvah playing field fell and brought his power line down. “That was a Saturday afternoon, so at least there weren’t as many people around as during the school week,” he said.
“I’m really worried about the trees here. When one comes down, it could easily harm pedestrians or traffic. The council needs to manage the trees to reduce the danger. Everyone says it’s about money, but reducing the prospect of anything happening will reduce the cost in the long run – and what price a life?”
