THERE promises to be plenty of Christmas magic in Newquay to celebrate the festive season.
Newquay Town Council, Newquay BID and Cornwall Shop Small is coming together to host a spectacular three-day Christmas celebration at the Killacourt from November 28 to 30, which will feature the Christmas lights switch-on, a bustling Christmas market, live music performances, and family entertainment.
The festivities will commence with Newquay's traditional Christmas lights switch-on ceremony on Friday, November 28. The evening will build towards the magical moment when the town centre illuminates at 6.45pm, accompanied by a dazzling fireworks display over the bay.
The celebration will begin with the opening of the Christmas Market and Bar at 3pm, featuring carol singing by Oll an Gwella, performances from Wicked Tribute and Bubbles the Pixie, culminating in an evening show by Forever Swift – a Taylor Swift Tribute act. This year's Christmas tree has been generously sponsored by Boardmasters.
A full day of live music will be held at the Christmas Market's entertainment area on Saturday, November 29, which will include Lowrie & Mark, Joe Hurworth, The Newqs, Bow River, and Josh Curnow. Visitors can also participate in a wreath making workshop, booking required, while browsing unique gifts from local artisans.
The weekend culminates with family festive fun day on Sunday, November 30, which will be packed with activities for all ages. Highlights include a giant snow globe photo opportunity, a drop-in children's art workshop, theatrical performances and Christmas storytelling by Café Petite, special festive visitors, and a children's Christmas disco to close the celebrations.
The Killacourt Christmas Market will feature carefully selected local vendors offering handcrafted gifts and decorations, festive food and seasonal treats, hot drinks including mulled wine, and unique Cornwall-made products perfect for Christmas shopping.
Mayor Cllr Drew Creek said: “I am thrilled with the lineup for this Christmas light switch-on spectacular, with some amazing entertainment brought to you by Newquay Town Council. I can’t wait to see the Christmas tree in its prominent new spot on the Killacourt, which makes so much sense.
“Huge thanks go to our new events manager, Amy and partnership working with Mark from Newquay Bid. I will be there with Radio Newquay and special guest switching on the lights. It’s going to be a blast.”
Visitors are encouraged to arrive early during Friday evening's lights switch-on event due to expected crowds.
Newquay at Christmas has been part-funded by Experience Newquay, a project promoting Cornwall as a year-round destination. The initiative is supported by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and Cornwall Council's Town Centre Revitalisation Fund.
