A Newquay social group brought some joy to a charity over the festive season after donating £7,000.
The ladies of the Newquay Thursday Club were delighted to welcome members of the Cornwall Accessible Activities Programme (CAAP) to their recent Carols by Candlelight evening in St Michael’s Church.
Together with the Celtic Fiddlers and local poet Clive Blake the audience enjoyed a festive evening of carols and entertainment, enhanced by the tableaux created by the 3rd Newquay Brownies.
The highlight of the evening was the presentation of a cheque, which was donated by the Thursday Club to CAAP.
Sandy Lawrence from CAAP was overwhelmed at the sum that had been raised by the Thursday Club throughout 2022.
The money will be invested into projects to support young disabled people and their siblings from across Cornwall.
Young assistants from CAAP worked with the women to help at coffee mornings over several occasions and at the street party held to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. Their most recent task was at the Headland Hotel where they contributed to the decorating of the hotel in readiness for the festive season.
Maggie Biddle from The Thursday Club said: “We are extremely grateful to the directors of the Headland Hotel for the very generous amount that they donated to the fundraising account in recognition of their voluntary assistance to bedeck the hotel with Christmas sparkle.
“Likewise, praise was given on the evening to the year long support of the staff and customers of Chester Stores who have helped the cause by raising £2,000.00 through the sale of knitted mascot dolls, made by Thursday Club members.”
