SALTASH residents are being urged to have their say on the future of the town when a major public consultation gets under way next month.

The consultation on the Settlement Spatial Plan will launch at Saltash Library Hub on October 9 and run until October 31.

Saltash Town Council wants residents, businesses, community groups and visitors to help identify the issues and priorities which should shape future planning decisions across the town.

And there will be plenty to discuss, with views being sought on housing, jobs, transport, community facilities, green spaces and infrastructure.

The council says the consultation is an opportunity for people to help create a shared vision for Saltash and influence how the town develops in the years ahead.

Further details will be published before the consultation begins, including an online survey, dates and locations for drop-in sessions and information on where paper copies of the survey can be collected and returned.

The council is encouraging as many people as possible to get involved, stressing the importance of ensuring a wide range of views are heard.

The new consultation builds on work already carried out through Saltash’s Neighbourhood Development Plan, which was developed following extensive community engagement.

The plan was backed by residents at a referendum in March 2022, when 92.5 per cent of votes cast supported its adoption.

It now forms part of the statutory development plan and is used to help guide planning decisions in Saltash.

Neighbourhood plans can influence where new homes, businesses and community facilities are located, while also helping to protect green spaces and heritage assets.

Residents will have almost a month to make their views known once the consultation opens.

The council says more information about how to take part will be released ahead of the launch.
