THE mayor of Truro has accepted a cheque for £2,000 raised by a special event organised by the Rotary Club of Truro Boscawen and held at Truro Golf Club.
The ‘Mayor of Truro’s Charity Golf Day’ was held on Friday, May 16 in aid of charities chosen by Cllr Carol Swain, mayor of Truro for 2024/25. Truro Foodbank and St Petrocs will receive an equal share of the proceeds.
Playing in glorious sunshine were 37 teams of four golfers. Chris Nicholls Motors was the main sponsor of the day, and each hole was sponsored by a Cornish business.
The main competition prize was the Rotary Club of Truro Boscawen Trophy, awarded annually to the team with the highest score in the event, and taken this year by the team La Fuenta, with a score of 89 Stableford points.
The cheque was presented on June 16 to current mayor Cllr Chris Wells, who said: “Truro City Council welcomes the continued support of the Rotary Club of Truro Boscawen. I know the charities will put the funding to good use and I thank all involved for their charitable efforts for the community of Truro.”
A cheque for £2,000 was also presented on the day of the competition to Cornwall Hospice Care as a further part of the proceeds of the golfing day.
The Rotary Club of Truro Boscawen was established in 1989, has 27 members from a range of professions and meets fortnightly at Truro Golf Club. Members have raised many thousands of pounds to support local charities operating in Cornwall and internationally. The club also organises and funds annual competitions for schools and young people (Youth Speaks and Young Writer), and in 2024 sponsored three candidates during the week-long Rotary Youth Leadership Award event on Dartmoor.
