PREMIER Inn Hotels Ltd has submitted a planning application to increase the number of bedrooms at it’s St Austell hotel.

The hotel group has identified a “considerable demand” for the provision of additional budget hotel accommodation at The Carclaze Premier Inn.

At ground floor level, the restaurant area would be reconfigured and reduced in size to allow for seven new bedrooms.

A six square meter single-storey lobby is also proposed to the south east corner of the building. This will provide a new dedicated restaurant entrance for guests staying in the main hotel building.

The existing restaurant entrance will be used for access to the new hotel bedrooms.

On the first floor, another six new hotel bedrooms would be provided, alongside a linen store, in place of the restaurant’s toilets and staff accommodation.

The proposal would result in an increase in hotel bedrooms on the wider site from 108 to 121, with a restaurant retained on the ground floor of the existing restaurant building for guests.

There would be no change to existing car parking arrangements.

A planning statement, read: “The existing hotel restaurant has shown a continued shortfall in demand. The applicant therefore seeks to reconfigure the hotel bedroom and restaurant offer on the site to ensure its success and future viability.”
