REMEMBRANCE events taking place in Truro have been listed by Truro City Council in partnership with the Truro Branch of the Royal British Legion and Truro Cathedral.

The Poppy Appeal was launched on Saturday, October 25, and the Blessing of the Garden of Remembrance ceremony will take place on the lawn area at the east end of the Cathedral at 11:45am on Sunday, November 2.

On Remembrance Sunday – November 9 - the Act of Remembrance will take place at 11am at the Truro War Memorial in Boscawen Street.

A wreath laying ceremony will take place at 2.30pm at Truro War Memorial, followed by a military parade which will pause on Boscawen Street for a salute with His Majesty the King’s Lord-Lieutenant for Cornwall, Colonel Sir Edward Bolitho KCVO OBE.

The procession will then continue to High Cross, where the Guard of Honour will form before being joined by the Civic Procession. The day’s commemorations will conclude with a service of Remembrance at Truro Cathedral, starting at 3.15pm.

On Armistice Day – Tuesday, November 11 - a two-minute silence will be observed at 11am at the War Memorial in Boscawen Street, led by the Truro Branch of the Royal British Legion, to mark the ending of the First World War in 1918.

The Mayor of Truro, Cllr Chris Wells, will participate in all events and will welcome dignitaries and military personnel to Truro ahead of the Remembrance commemorations. He said: “Remembrance events are an opportunity for us all to remember the many people who have given their lives in the service of our country, and to honour their bravery and sacrifice.

“I feel very privileged to be able to represent the people of Truro and city councillors and staff on these important occasions, and in this year when we have marked the 80th anniversaries of VE and VJ Days, I hope that as many people as possible will make a special effort to attend.”
