A rail attraction in St Newlyn East has organised an official naming ceremony for its brand-new £500,000 train to signal the start of its 50th anniversary celebrations.

Lapp Valley is staging the event on Monday, February 12.

The name, which is still a secret, was chosen by three young siblings from Devon as part of a competition the attraction ran last year and will be in attendance on the day.

It is the first time in Lappa Valley’s history that it has purchased a new diesel locomotive and carriages.

The train is more efficient and environmentally-friendly to run.

It has also significantly increased the number of accessible compartments for visitors with mobility issues.
