YEAR 7 students from Pool Academy have stepped into the spotlight during a unique trip to the Greatest Hits Radio (formerly Pirate FM) studio.

Their mission was to record a brand-new radio advert promoting the school’s upcoming Open Evening on September 25. But the experience turned out to be even more special than expected.

In a moment of broadcast history, the students became the last voices ever recorded in the iconic studio before its relocation to a new national base. Treated like true radio royalty, the students were given exclusive access to the studio space and even took home Greatest Hits Radio swag to mark the occasion.

Not only did the students deliver professional and confident performances behind the mic, they also learned about how radio adverts are made and left with memories that will last a lifetime.

Nick Ward, principal at Pool Academy said: “Our students were absolute stars. To take part in something so unique and represent the school so brilliantly was a real honour. We're incredibly proud of how they conducted themselves and we can’t wait for everyone to hear their voices on the radio this summer!”
