People have been urged to stay clear of a cliff in Newquay following a landslip.

A section of cliff at the Killacourt has collapsed into Newquay Bay and Towan Promenade following the high winds and wet weather.

Newquay Town Council, which manages, the green space, has fenced off the area and has appealed to people to stay clear.

Part of the cliff collapse narrowly avoided the beach huts on Towan Promenade.

Cllr Joanna Kenny said: "The rockfall at Towan is the reason the Newquay Neighbourhood Plan has planning policies against developing near the cliff edge.

"This time, the fall has taken some of the railings with it. And it looks like, at some time, there was a lucky escape for the beach huts on Towan Prom."

A council spokesman said: “A section of the cliff on the Killacourt has fallen.

“This area has been fenced off and clearly marked with signage.

“We respectfully ask that everyone adheres to these rules and the barrier is not crossed.”
