A special plaque has been presented to Penlee Lifeboat coxswain Patch Harvey dedicated to remember the rescue of a yacht in October 2022, following which Patch was awarded with the RNLI silver medal in recognition of the rescue carried out in hurricane conditions.
The coxswain’s crew of RNLI volunteers received Silver Medal Gallantry Certificates for their part in the rescue.
Neville Greenhalgh, who hails from Rochdale, has produced two other plaques for the station, one of the Solomon Browne and another on Penlee’s history. He has known Patch for some time have become friends.
Neville said: “It seemed like a good idea to commemorate the rescue particularly as the presentation was made by HRH The Princess Royal at Buckingham Palace, a photograph of which appears on the plaque.”
Neville will soon be working on another plaque to remember the work of the RNLI volunteers actions on that night on October 31 2022.
