MEMBERS of the Oddfellows Friendship Groups in Redruth and Truro were recently treated to an engaging talk by fellow member and local councillor Ruth Major, better known as ‘Rubbish Ruth’.

The event also included a wartime-themed quiz, held in honour of the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War.

Ruth began her litter-picking campaign in 2017 and after increasing public interest, she named her initiative ‘Beautify Britain’.

Determined to make a difference, Ruth picks up at least one piece of litter each day, using her free bus pass to travel across the country promoting cleaner communities.

She actively shares her efforts on social media platforms, inspiring many others to take up the cause and join in keeping Britain beautiful.

The wartime quiz was a hit with attendees, sparking nostalgic memories for some who remembered life in the immediate post-war years.

As always, both groups enjoyed a warm and welcoming atmosphere, complete with cakes, chocolate biscuits, and plenty of tea and coffee.

The event also included the usual distribution of take-home puzzles, free book club materials, and a prize raffle which raised funds for a local good cause yet to be confirmed.
