LOCAL historian, photograph collector and Voice reader Barrie Doney has no shortage of pictures and stories from Cornwall’s past, which he shares with Voice Newspaper readers every week.

This week’s photograph shows a historic image of Bodmin Town Band from nearly a century ago.

Barrie says of this photograph: “This photo is the earliest photo known of Bodmin Town Band which was taken in 1927, years before I became a member in 1951.

“I started playing a Euphonium in the junior band and 12 months later I was playing the G Trombone in the senior band, under Mr WD Lawton who was a cornet player with Foden Motor Works band.

“I played the trombone until 1980 when I retired. In all those years I played amongst others contests all over the Country, many times at Bugle Contest.”
