NEWQUAY Pride which was due to take place on Saturday has been postponed following the adverse weather forecast.

Organisers said with winds gusting at more than 40mph they have decided to put safety first.

The Pride march was due to set off from Beach Road at 12pm. The celebrations were due to continue from 12.30pm on the Killacourt, where the march ends, with live performances and music.

A spokesperson for Cornwall Pride said: “Newquay Pride, we’re gutted.

“We are so sorry tomorrow’s weather has other plans. With winds gusting over 40mph, gazebos turning into kites, and heavy rain rolling in, the call has to be safety first.

“As much as we’d love to dance through a storm, Pride is about putting people and safety first.

“So, Newquay Pride is postponed. Not cancelled, postponed date to be arranged. Pride isn’t a one-day thing, it’s who we are, and we’ll bring it back bigger, brighter, and just as unapologetically fabulous when it’s safe to do so.

“Thank you for understanding, thank you to everyone who’s poured their heart into making this happen, and thank you Newquay for always showing up with love.

“Keep your sequins dry, keep your flags ready, we’ll see you very soon.”
