NEWQUAY Tretherras is celebrating its student’s GCSE results, which has placed the academy among the highest performing nationally for key subjects.

There have been particularly strong performances across a wide range of academic subjects including English, French, Spanish, Computer Science and Statistics, which are all expected to rank within the top 20 per cent of schools across the country.

Thirty-eight per cent of students achieved a Grade 7 or above in English and 83 per cent got a Grade 4 or above. Nearly 70 per cent of the cohort achieved a Grade 4 or above in both English and Maths. The school's creative and vocational subjects have performed equally well.

Headteacher Gemma Harries said: “We are incredibly proud of our students and the exceptional results they have achieved. These outcomes are a testament to their hard work, determination and ambition, as well as the dedication of our staff and the support of families throughout the school community.

“To see so many subjects performing at such a high level nationally, alongside another outstanding year for our vocational and creative subjects, is a fantastic achievement. Our students should be immensely proud of what they have accomplished.

“These results are particularly special because they come at the end of a remarkable year for Newquay Tretherras. Last week, we celebrated our best-ever A Level results, where 90 per cent of grades were A*- C; and nearly 100 per cent of vocational grades were either distinction* or distinction, putting us in the top 10 per cent nationally at least.

“We are now delighted to celebrate another outstanding set of GCSE outcomes. It is a wonderful reflection of the ambition, commitment and achievement that runs throughout our school.”

Among the students celebrating today are a few of Newquay Tretherras’ top attaining students, including Theo C who achieved seven grade 9s; two Grade 8s; and a distinction*. He has applied to stay at Newquay Tretherras Sixth Form.

Elliot Pope achieved seven grade 9s; two grade 8s; and one grade seven. He has also applied to stay at Newquay Tretherras Sixth Form.

Missy R achieved seven grade 9s; one grade 8; and two grade 7s. She will be attending Truro College to study the International Baccalaureate.

Finley R achieved five grade 9s; two grade 8s; one grade seven and a distinction*. He is off to Truro College to study electronics. Mollie P achieved one grade 9; four grade 8s; three grade 7s and a distinction*. He has applied to stay at Newquay Tretherras Sixth Form.

Rebecca C achieved one grade 8; two grade 7s; three grade 6s; one grade 5; and a distinction*. She has applied to study at Newquay Tretherras Sixth Form.

Among those also celebrating are Oscar W, Blake S and Mathew L, all of whom are national tennis champions and are celebrating a top set of results as well as Elliot P, who is a national surf life saver.

A spokesperson for Newquay Tretherras said: “These GCSE results mark another significant milestone in what has been an exceptional year for Newquay Tretherras.

“With both Post-16 and GCSE students achieving outstanding outcomes, the school continues to demonstrate its commitment to providing young people with the opportunities, knowledge and skills they need to thrive.

“For the students receiving their results, the message from the whole Newquay Tretherras community is simple. You have achieved something amazing.

“No matter what you find in your envelope, you have left a legacy to be proud of. You have worked hard and been incredible role models. Thank you for all you have done.
