THE biggest ever surf life saving national beach competition was held at Holywell Bay.

Around 1,600 competitors from all over Cornwall and as far away as Norfolk and Northumberland took part in the Surf Life Saving GB National Championships.

The competitors aged from eight to nearly 80 competed in sprints, 1k runs, sea swims and board paddles during the event, which was hosted by Holywell Bay Surf Life Saving Club.

Bude scooped the masters win, Hayle bagged the Youth championships and Woolacombe took the Nippers crown.

Holywell Bay SLSC Chairman Steve Pecks said: “I am so proud of our team for what we have achieved building to an event.

“We hope everyone enjoyed being part of such an incredible community event.

“The feedback we have received has been overwhelming.”
