FUNDRAISERS are getting ready to roll to take part in Crantock’s biggest charity event of the year.

The 26th Bale Push will be staged on Friday, September 11 from 5pm onwards.

Teams will be competing against the clock pushing huge bales of hay around the village in aid of Man Down UK well as other local groups and organisations.

The junior teams will get underway from 5pm; which will be followed by the eight and unders, the 12 and unders, the 16 and unders and the ladies who will compete over shorter distances.

The open and the veteran 180’s teams will compete over the full quarter of a mile course through the village from around 7.30pm. They will be pushing a full-size round bale of straw, weighing approximately 420lbs and measuring 4' 6" in diameter starting and finishing between the two village pubs.

The Bale push will be welcoming back 1940’s crooner Andy Marshall to perform early evening live entertainment. Black Velvet and The Quest will be taking to the stage later in the evening at the Old Albion and The Cornishman.

Chairperson Nigel Eustice said “Crantock Bale Push is an essential part of Crantock life providing great fun, excitement and healthy competition for all ages, while also raising welcomed funds for local groups and organisations. with plenty of fun, food and happy vibes awaiting participants and spectators.

“Remember, you don't have to be mad to take part, but it helps."

Teams can enter on the evening, which is £10 for adult’s teams and £5 for children’s teams. Parking is available at Crantock Village Hall.

The total raised by the Crantock Bale Push since 2000 now tops more than £191,500, which has been donated to Cornish charities and local organisations.
