A new bin has been installed on a popular and well used route in Mevagissey, following an intervention from Cornwall Councillor James Mustoe.
Cllr Mustoe said: “11-year-old Isla recently wrote to me about the issue of having to walk around dog poo on her route to school most days.
“This situation was causing her a lot of upset and frustration but she was also concerned that the problem was actually causing a safety hazard for pedestrians, having to walk in the road to avoid it.
“Sadly this issue is not uncommon, we are aware there are other regular spots, but it is particularly grim when children are walking through it and in some cases, unwittingly trailing it into school or home.
“As a result of Isla’s letter, I am delighted to report that a new dog bin has been installed and additional signage will soon be added to remind dog owners that failing to clean up after your dog can result in a fine of up to £1,000.
Members of the public can report fouling to the council at www.cornwall.gov.uk
If you have limited mobility, extendable pooper-scoopers are available to buy online.
Cllr Mustoe said: “Please everyone, can we politely ask that dog owners pick up after your dogs, and make where we live a cleaner and more hygienic place for all.
“It could be your shoe, your carpet or doorway if not.
“In Isla’s words ‘we won’t stop until it stops’!”
