ONE of Cornwall’s MPs has called for a documentary calling for action to tackle the climate and nature crisis to be screened on prime time television across the nation.

Ben Maguire, MP for North Cornwall has said the broadcasters such as the BBC and ITV should be screening the ‘National Emergency Briefing’ across the country in an effort to give the public a chance to ‘hear directly from independent experts about both the risks we face and the solutions available to us’.

The call came at a packed climate and nature event hosted by Maguire in Bodmin on Monday, August 24, as the film makes it way across the county as part of an ongoing screening tour. The event welcomed more than 120 attendees, local charities, environmental organisations, community groups and climate campaigners for a day of discussion and action.

The National Emergency Briefing features evidence from leading experts on the impact of climate and nature breakdown on areas including food security, health, the economy and national security.

Commenting, Ben Maguire MP said: "We have one of the world's most unique and fantastic natural environments and landscapes here in Cornwall, and protecting it for future generations must absolutely be one of our highest priorities.

"But the climate crisis we face is an existential threat that goes far beyond just here. The UK, and our government, have a responsibility to take a leading role on the world stage, and that starts with being honest with people about the sheer scale of the challenge we face, and the action that is needed.

"I believe the National Emergency Briefing should be given the platform it deserves, with a prime-time screening across Britain's public service broadcasters. This is an issue of enormous national importance, and the public deserve to hear directly from independent experts about both the risks we face and the solutions available to us."
