AS I approach the end of my second year as mayor of Newquay, I find myself reflecting on what kind of town we are building, not just for today, but for the generations who will call this place home long after us.

From the very beginning of my mayoralty, I made children and young people a central priority.

I’m proud of what we’ve achieved, the upcoming new play park at Mount Wise, progress on the Youth Centre, and the planting of a community orchard, gifts to future generations that will grow alongside our children.

I’m also proud that Newquay’s schools have joined us in signing a smartphone-free covenant, taking a bold stand to protect children’s wellbeing and help them be present, connected, and free from the pressures of constant screens, especially in school.

Inclusion has been equally close to my heart.

Two years ago I was honoured to lead Newquay’s Pride parade, a powerful reminder that our town is for everyone. This Sunday that spirit continues as we join the team at Zaman’s restaurant for a community celebration of Eid.

Moments like these are what make Newquay special.

None of this happens alone.

One of the greatest privileges of this role has been working alongside so many brilliant organisations who love this town as much as I do.

Newquay BID, Boardmasters, Pride, Newquay in Bloom, and countless others, your energy, dedication and partnership make the difference between a town that talks and a town that delivers.

I want to acknowledge the structural changes we’ve made to how the town council operates.

Change is rarely comfortable, but they have been made with purpose, to create a council that is focused on delivery and getting real results for residents.

Newquay deserves a council that matches its ambition. I believe we are building exactly that.
