TALKS are under way to find a new landlord to take the helm at the Market Inn on Back Quay. Owner Star Pubs advertised for new licensees and received correspondence from “a number of interested parties”.

Built circa 1900, The Market Inn is a grade two listed building with an attractive green-tiled frontage. It’s fondly known to many locals as "Ma Shaw's" after a redoubtable former landlady.

However, it closed in January 2023 and is currently undergoing a necessary refurbishment to the interior and exterior, resulting in 48 internal covers and 60 external covers.

A Star Pubs spokesperson said: “We're still interviewing candidates and expect to have an applicant confirmed in the autumn.”
