A MAJOR operation was launched following reports a woman was on a cliff near Fistral Beach and had made threats to “harm herself.”

Newquay RNLI lifeboats, Newquay Coastguard Rescue Helicopter 924, Newquay and Padstow Coastguard rescue teams, ambulance and police were alerted to the East Pentire area on Wednesday, June 18 at 12.40am.

Officers, ambulance, HM Coastguard and the RNLI carried out an extensive land and sea search for her.

The Coastguard and RNLI stood down their search at 3.45am after the woman was not located.

Police have since made contact with the woman who confirmed she was safe. Officers are conducting further enquiries to locate her for welfare checks.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: “Police were called by the ambulance service following concern for the welfare of a woman in Newquay.

“The woman was reportedly on a cliff near Fistral Beach and had made threats to harm herself.

“The Coastguard and RNLI stood down their search at 3.45am after the woman was not located.

“Police have since made contact with the woman who confirmed she was safe. Officers are conducting further enquiries to locate her for welfare checks.
