THE coastguard rescued a man on a cliff edge in Newquay on Monday afternoon after concerns were raised for his welfare.

Newquay Coastguard Rescue Team and HM Coastguard Padstow carried out a rope rescue of a man above Great Western Beach at 12.40pm.

The man was left in the care of the ambulance service.

The police and the Newquay RNLI lifeboats were also in attendance.

A Coastguard spokesperson said: “After assisting with a technical rope rescue set up, all coastguard assets were stood down once the casualty was moved to safety.”

A police spokesperson added: “We were called to a report of a concern for the welfare of a man in the Cliff Road area.

“The man was located and left in the care of the ambulance service.”
